If you are the proud new owner of a straw basket, or are considering purchasing one for your home or travels, here's a round up some of the most frequently asked questions we receive, however please feel free to get in touch if you have a question which isn't covered here.

Q: What are Moroccan straw baskets?

A: Baskets have been in use for over 10,000 years, and people all over the world use them in one form or another. They are commonly used for storage or as decorative pieces.

Our straw baskets are handwoven baskets, traditionally made in Morocco by skilled artisans who have generally been weaving for generations and are crafted from all-natural materials such as straw, grass, and palm leaves.

Q: Are Moroccan straw baskets eco-friendly?

A: Yes, Moroccan straw baskets are eco-friendly as they are made from all-natural sustainable materials and are biodegradable.

Q: Can Moroccan straw baskets be used for everyday purposes?

A: Yes, Moroccan straw baskets are perfect for everyday purposes such as storage, carrying groceries or as a beach bag. They are flexible and sturdy, with strong leather or straw handles, however they should not be used for carrying very heavy items.

Q: How do I clean my straw basket?

A: To clean your Moroccan straw basket, simply wipe it with a damp cloth and allow it to air dry. Avoid using harsh chemicals or submerging it in water as this can weaken the palm straw.

Q: How do I store my straw basket when not in use?

A: Store your straw basket in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.

Q: My basket has a slight smell to it, what is it?

A: Occasionally, if a basket is very newly made, it may have a slight odour to it - this is just the smell of the new straw and is perfectly normal. The odour will dissipate over a period of a month or so; airing it will speed up the process. You can also leave an open container or small fabric bag of baking soda inside it for a day or two as baking soda naturally absorbs odours.

Q: How accurate are the dimensions stated on your website?

A: Baskets are woven by hand and the dimensions will vary slightly from basket to basket. Whilst we do our best to to be as accurate as possible, sizes and colours are approximate and are a guide only. The natural materials they are made with can vary slightly in colour, it is this uniqueness which gives these baskets character. Please feel free to get in touch should you require accurate sizing from our current stock.
